Food to Feed Families in Troubled Times: Our Refrigerator & Freezer Campaign
We are in dire need of three refrigerators to store purchased and donated food from the local community and the Ottawa Food Bank.
The refrigerators currently in use do not maintain the proper temperature to hold the life span of the food we carry. As a result we often lose valuable produce which then has to be discarded..
With a signicant increase in people with food insecurities who depend on us for a 3 day nutritious supply of food it is critical to have adequate refrigeration space.
New energy efficient larger capacity refrigerators and freezers will reduce the loss of food, currently a major problem for our center.
The new fridges will also use less hydro making our organization more energy efficient.
As a not for profit charity, we have limited resources to accommodate the updating of equipment, so any contributions you may provide to our Refrigerator & Freezer Campaign will be greatly appreciated.

Heron Emergency Food Centre Facts
There is nothing complicated about what we do. Working with the Ottawa Food Bank, supported by the City of Ottawa and assisted by the generosity of the churches and local residents, HEFC receives food in bulk and purchases items that are needed to supplement what has been donated to ensure that the three-day, emergency supply of food that we provide will meet the nutritional needs of our clients.
Over the years, we have developed a dedicated volunteer base that allows us to distribute a remarkable amount of food at an astonishingly low cost.In 2009, our overhead was $15,000.
